I recently used this product to secure steel rods into newel posts for an interior railing, and I needed a strong adhesive due to the safety aspects of my project. JB Weld was an excellent choice. I also found a better price on Amazon, which was a nice bonus compared to local hardware stores.
As for working and setting time, I noticed many reviews mentioned a timeframe of 10-15 minutes or longer, but my experience was quite different. It became tacky and gummy remarkably quickly, within about 3-4 minutes, so I had to work fast to bond my items. I ended up using small paper cups for mixing after losing a larger batch to the quick drying. The dry climate here may have contributed to the rapid setting, potentially explaining the differing experiences among reviewers. I waited to test the final bond to avoid damaging it.
Regarding adhesion and strength, I glued steel to wood and steel to MDF, and both connections are incredibly strong. I had to remove one rod to touch up some paint, and it was quite a challenge, which is exactly what I wanted. I initially used the classic gray JB Weld, which felt slightly stronger (though that’s just my impression), but I opted for the clear version to avoid any gray showing on my railing. The clear adhesive is more than sufficient for my needs. However, don’t expect JB Weld to replace actual welding; it’s still a surface adhesive with its limitations. There are some impressive videos online demonstrating its strength under torque and shear weight tests.
In terms of clarity, it dries completely clear with no issues. The gray version was messy against the white newels, but the clear is nearly invisible. I can spot small drips if I look closely, but they are easily removed with a razor.

I’m updating my original 2-star review. Contrary to what the packaging claims, this epoxy does not cure in 1 hour or even 24 hours. It sets in about 2 days, but the full cure time is more like 7-9 days. So, don’t trust the package—plan for a complete cure in 7 days to a month.
Now, onto my experience: I used this epoxy to install a spherical bearing in my Caliber 3 Raked 50-degree, 158mm RPK longboard trucks. After two days, the epoxy was set enough for me to use the truck, but it remained soft for about a week and a half. Eventually, it bonded so well with the metal that you can no longer poke it with a needle or leave a dent with your fingernail.
Surprisingly, it’s holding up excellently, to the point where I’m confident it won’t fail. It has fused to the aluminum hanger on the truck and completely transformed how the skateboard pumps. I initially thought the 99a thane plugs were responsible for a solid ride, but it feels like I’ve installed a precision truck instead.
For anyone considering this for similar use, it works great—just ignore the packaging’s claims. If you can manage your expectations regarding curing time, you’ll be pleased with the results. I have the trucks mounted on a Pantheon Supersonic with 85mm Speed Vents, and it’s the ultimate setup. I actually prefer it over the Gbomb; it performs just as well, if not better, and is shorter and lighter. Plus, you avoid the hassle of brackets or the cost of precision trucks when you can create your own.
I chose the Caliber 3 Raked 158mm trucks for their greater rake compared to Bear Gen 6 and Paris V3 (the latter being a joke for pumping due to their excessive slop). Even with the stock plug barrel bushings, the Caliber 3 Raked trucks pumped well, but now it’s unbelievably effortless. Just make sure to get the raked version; otherwise, you might as well toss them.
So, I’m changing my rating from 2 stars to 4 stars. It would be a 5-star review if the company were more honest about the curing time.
